Nail The Mix
Get "I, The Creator" multi-tracks + a mixing class from John Browne
This month on NTM: John Browne of MONUMENTS
If you're a fan of progressive metal, you already know that Monuments are one of the very best in the genre, standing out not just for their chops but also their great songwriting and detailed, dynamic arrangements. But what you might NOT know is that their album "The Amaneunsis" was mixed by Monuments guitarist John Browne in a humble home studio that's probably not too different from what many of you have. Why does this matter? Because this session proves what you've heard us a say a zillion times - that gear and software is only a relatively small part of what makes a great mix. The most important part is YOU, the mixer - and this session is a perfect example of the fact that you can make a pro-level album with what you have right now.

Don't believe us? Join now and prove us wrong :)
What's challenging + fun about this song (according to John):
  •  Guitar and Bass are totally unedited. I'm an avid hater of the sound of edited guitars so I much prefer to get the tighest take I can at the time and roll with it. There are some minor mistakes in the performance, but when the mix comes together it's definitely a part of the performance and works. Obviously edit these if YOU think it sounds better - I'll die a little bit inside for you.
  •    LOTS and LOTS of ghost notes on the snare which can be fairly difficult to come out if the snare mix is wrong. There's a heavily compressed snare track that will help with that, that was run parallel during the recording process.
  •    There are 8 tracks of Rhythm Guitars or 4 per side. The inner 2 are one sound and the outer 2 are another.
  •    Getting the Clean and Lead guitars to cut through the mix with everything going on can be quite challenging. Cutting through without making them not harsh or muddy took me the longest time on this record.

About Nail The Mix
Learn to mix from the guys who made your favorite albums
NAIL THE MIX is an online mixing school created by Joey Sturgis, Joel Wanasek and Eyal Levi - the guys who produced bands like TDWP, Chelsea Grin, Blessthefall, Machine Head, Monuments, Miss May I, The Black Dahlia Murder, Reflections, Born Of Osiris, Asking Alexandria and dozens more of this generation's best metal bands.

Every month, NAIL THE MIX members get exclusive access to the REAL MULTI-TRACK SESSIONS from a REAL ALBUM, and a 6-8 hour live streaming class from the producer who mixed it. These aren't bogus covers played by some nobody off of YouTube, these are the actual sessions by bands like Periphery, A Day To Remember, Meshuggah, Neck DeepMachine Head, Gojira and Papa Roach - and NTM is the only place in the world you'll get access to them!

Trust me... until you've worked with world-class source material, you have no idea what you're missing. Getting access to this stuff is a GAME CHANGER!
Frequently Asked Questions (and our answers)
Can I get this without subscribing?
No, Nail The Mix is a subscription service like Netflix or Spotify. But you can subscribe then immediately cancel - note that you can download the multi-tracks to keep forever, but you will lose access to the streaming video of the mixing class.
When I sign up for Nail The Mix, do I get access to all the previous episodes and stems?
No-- that wouldn’t be fair to the subscribers who signed up before you. Nail the Mix works like a magazine subscription: you get the current month's session, every new session that comes out while you're a member, and the ability to purchase past months' sessions on demand (just visit the "Previous Stems" section of NTM Members site).
How do I cancel my account or change my payment method?
Rest assured that we will never, ever make it hard for you to cancel! Just get in touch with support (http://urmsupport.com) or our Facebook support assistant (tinyurl.com/urmhelpdesk) - please be sure to reach out at least 48 hours before your subscription renews to avoid any issues.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit cards or debit cards from Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. We do NOT accept PAYPAL.
I can’t make it to the live mixing class, oh no!
Don’t worry partner. You can watch recordings of all the mixing classes you own on demand. Links are available in the Multi-tracks section on the Nail the Mix member area: http://login.nailthemix.com
Does it matter which DAW I use?
No. All files are supplied in wav format so you can just import them into your DAW, and get to mixing! We also include meter, tempo, and song information.
When will I be billed?
Every 30 days, on the initial purchase date. So if you sign up on the 15th of this month, you'll be billed on the 15th of next month. If you purchased an annual subscription, you will be billed 365 days from the initial purchase date.
I don't have all the plugins you guys use- is that a problem?
No. You don’t need to have the same plugins we have. Plugins are tools for audio just like a hammer is a tool for construction. Plugins come in a variety of colors & tones, and they each provide a way to sculpt your mix. We educate you on all kinds of plugins, when how and why to use them, and we often give you additional solutions using alternative plugins for solving mixing problems with similar results. As long as you understand the reasons behind the decision making, you’ll know what to do. Oh and pro-tip, every DAW comes with stock plugins that are more than good enough for Nail the Mix.
Can I download the live mix events to watch later?
You can download the audio files. The video is available on demand as long as you're a member.
Can I use these tracks for my portfolio?
It depends: some tracks automatically get flagged on Content ID systems such as Soundcloud or YouTube. We take no responsibility for your activities outside of Nail the Mix. You may attempt to use your mix of a track provided by Nail the Mix solely for the purpose of your portfolio but only by following these legal and ethical terms and conditions: Up to 45 seconds of any portion of any track may be used as long as the original artist, producers, and engineers are properly credited. The proper information required for use of the track will be posted each month with the song description. Please check this every month as the rules may vary for different artists based on their requests.
